The numbers of children taking part in youth football with neurodiversity, such as Autism, Asperger’s and ADHD seems to be increasing with our greater knowledge and understanding of these conditions. This workshop gives coaches of youth football practical tips and ideas on how to ensure everyone is included and can thrive within their club.

This workshop will guide coaches through the process of creating a structured 6-week training programme that supports the holistic development of their players. The session will focus on building a framework that incorporates technical, tactical, physical, and psychological elements tailored to the specific needs of grassroots players. Attendees will learn how to set progressive goals, integrate key coaching points, and ensure each session contributes to long-term player improvement.
Topics covered will include:
- Identifying player needs at the foundation and youth levels
- Balancing individual player development with team dynamics
- Incorporating fun, engaging drills while maintaining a clear learning focus
- Using feedback and evaluation to adapt the training plan over time
- Creating a flexible but structured weekly schedule that aligns with match cycles
Who is it for?
This workshop is designed for ‘grassroots coaches; working with players at both the foundation phase (ages 5-11) and the youth development phase (ages 12-16). Whether you’re new to coaching or have some experience, this session will provide practical tools and insights to help you design an effective, development-focused programme for your players. If you are starting off as a volunteer this is a great way to engage with other coaches in your county to pick up best tips.

If you are interested in supporting and developing fellow coaches at your club to, we have an exciting opportunity for you. These sessions will cover 3 different topics (Role of a Coach Developer, Adult Learning and Effective Learning Environments) and have been designed to help you develop your skills and empower you to lead CPD (Continuing Professional Development) sessions for coaches within your club.
As a Volunteer Club Coach Developer, you will play a key role in shaping the future of coaching within your club and the wider community. By contributing to the development of your fellow coaches, you will help ensure they are well-equipped, motivated, and inspired to foster better, more skilled players and create positive, supportive environments for players of all levels.
